U.S. Resident Population

The total U.S. resident population in 2021 is 330 million, which is a 0.3% increase from the last year (2020, 329 million), a 5.8% increase from 10 years ago (2011, 312 million), a 16% increase from 20 years ago (2001, 285 million), a 30% increase from 30 years ago (1991, 253 million), a 44% increase from 40 years ago (1981, 229 million), and a 59% increase from 50 years ago (1971, 208 million).

Note: Resident population includes civilian population and armed forces personnel residing within the United States; it excludes armed forces personnel residing overseas. Population estimates as of July 1 of the indicated reference year.

U.S. Resident Population Growth

The U.S. resident population growth in 2021 is 1 million. 2021 is the first time the population growth is below 1 million in the recent history. The population growth was 2 million in 2017. The highest growth was 3.5 million in 1992. The population growth has been in decline since then.
